STERILIZATION OF DENTAL INSTRUMENTS

MEDICURE INSTRUMENTS manufactures high-quality reusable dental instruments that must be disinfectant or sterilized prior to each use. Therefore dentists should take great care to be sure that the dental instruments used during different dental treatments are clean and free of disease-causing germs to ensure the safety of patients. therefore dental instruments sterilization is an essential step in the reprocessing of reusable dental instruments that have become contaminated or are potentially contaminated.

GENERAL INSTRUCTION
The dental instruments are supplied non-sterile that must be disinfected or sterilized after removing from their protective packaging before use. The user is responsible for the sterility of the instruments. Therefore, please ensure that only validated procedures are used for cleaning and sterilization

CLEANING OF THE INSTRUMENTS:

The first step is cleaning the dental instruments to remove any debris, (such as residual tissue, body fluids, blood, oil, or other deposits like cement) that are attached to the instruments after their application in any clinical conditions. That contamination of the dental instruments can prevent direct contact between steam and surfaces of dental instruments for effective sterilization, also any deposits left on instruments before sterilization might become fixed to the instrument making them more difficult to remove later. Therefore, effective cleaning is an indispensable requirement for proper dental instruments sterilization

Ensure all the dental instruments to be sterilized must be cleaned properly and dry before placing them in the sterilizer chamber or autoclave.

An automatic cleaning procedure is recommended for a dental instrument washer disinfector or ultrasonic bath should be used for cleaning the dental instruments for effective sterilization, Manual cleaning procedures such as hand scrubbing the instrument should only be used if an automatic procedure is not available. if debris is remaining after automated cleaning, in this case, the significantly lower efficiency of a manual procedure must be considered

DENTAL INSTRUMENTS INSPECTION:
It is important to inspect the instrument carefully after cleaning and before sterilization, during the inspection, it should be ensured that the instrument has been thoroughly cleaned and dried to prevent corrosion, like rust from forming.

MINIMUM CYCLE TIMES FOR STEAM STERILIZATION

Sterilization Method Recommended Temperature Dry Time
Steam Autoclave 250 °F /121 °C for 20 Minutes 15-30 Minutes

Sterilization using a steam sterilizer is recommended as the most efficient, cost-effective, and safe method of sterilizing dental instruments in primary care dental practices. The Sterilization process must be validated to ensure that instruments are reliably and consistently sterilized using predetermined and reproducible conditions

LOADING OR PROCESSING OF INSTRUMENTS
The dental instrument after proper inspection should be wrapped and placed in sterilization perforated cassettes or trays with instrument rails to avoid collision and scratches on the surface from other pointed instruments.
Ensure that instruments don’t overlap
Hinged dental instruments like scissors, extraction forceps, general forceps, etc should be open to expose all of the surface areas to the steam Don’t overload the sterilizer chamber or individual trays or containers with instruments

WARNING!
